Its been quite some time since I read an article which painted such a realistic picture... This in a sense has been an eye opener for me, especially because I ( like many hot blooded Indian youth) has admired Sardar and his tactics much more than Nehru... I still have lots of issues on how Nehru dealt with many issues but you are quite right that the mild mannered Nehru was a requirement for success of a just Independent india..

Cheers,

pramod zachariahAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28765900.post-3821620234830166972007-11-20T11:44:00.000+05:302007-11-20T11:44:00.000+05:30I recall my lesson in Indian Domestic Politics in ...I recall my lesson in Indian Domestic Politics in JNU when I read Sudipto Kaviraj on "The Passive Revolution" in India.

His contention that the bureaucracy and the ruling elite in India were situtated by Nehru in a 'top-heavy' structure has been the ruination of governance and almost, negligible 'bottom-heavy' approach to governance; is something which transpires even today.

Undoubtedly, Pandit Nehru had many laurels to his credit, but statesmanship was his lesser virtue. Sardar Patel, by using the Machiavellian approach marked the territorial frontiers of what is India. This is what we seek to defend. Surely the ruling party (read Congress) conducts foreign policy and strives to protect "national security" of India's territorial frontiers?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28765900.post-49914421413361507502007-11-20T00:45:00.000+05:302007-11-20T00:45:00.000+05:30amit bhai ,from 15th year of my age , i firmly und...amit bhai ,
from 15th year of my age , i firmly understood contribution of nehruji in the making of india , my late father is disiciple of nehru (he was a first class scholar from a typical baniya fold) , his ldealism inspired me a lot , from then onwards i become disciple of both of my two fathers - (another is nehruji) ...
yours essay is excellent reading to the core , let me describe one incident
my father suffred from brain attack last year , he was on bed for next six month before his last movment , one special day (those days some doctors visit papa regularly) one renowned doctor was telling about profit making in the profession ,
MY papa asked just one question : what about the national interest being served by doctors
the famous doctor cynicaly answerd : their is no national interest now
i just stop and started to find answer , that night i asked my father about his childhood
he just say one thing to me That is his love for nehruvian vision make him to left multi million dollor business for the pursuit of unknown idealism that night i salute the maker of modren india (our beloved panditji)

PrashantAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28765900.post-17308549018456514902007-11-20T00:35:00.000+05:302007-11-20T00:35:00.000+05:30A discerning criticism.
